Loena Hendrickx's 3Lz+3T: How Ground Reaction Force Turns Ice Into Lift
Updated: 29 minutes ago

Loena Hendrickx opened her free skate at the 2023 Grand Prix Final with a triple Lutz–triple toe, and the panel scored it clean: no edge call, no < or q, +1.43 GOE. That is two pick-assisted take-offs in a row: the Lutz from a back outside edge, then a toe loop taken straight off the Lutz landing edge. Both jumps only work because the ice pushes back exactly as hard as she drives into it. That push is called ground reaction force, and it explains why some skaters get height off a rigid surface that never bounces.
